French postcard : Rugby at 1924 Olympics

A great "art deco" postcard (illustrated by Yves Roowy) celebrating rugby at the 1924 Olympic games in Paris.

This postcard comes out of a series of 10 : soccer, swimming, boxing, tennis, hurdles, discus, etc... that I will post one of these days...

Next time, I will tell you some more about the 1924 Olympic tournament - the last one in Olympics history - eventually won by... the USA.

Well, these postcards are pretty rare and collectors are usually quite aggressive to get them (rugby memorabilia collectors + Olympic collectors)...

So to say, Ive seen only one postcard of the US team + two postcards of the French team being sold online (eBay, Delcampe) since I started buying cards, ie Dec. 2002. Some original press photographies are also being sold sometimes... Nethertheless, you could set an alert...

Olympic cards are sometimes auctioned in mortar Sports auctions. There must be half a dozen sports/rugby auction every year (Paris, London, Cardiff). Check John Hoods website (www.ovalballs.com) and go to the links page to get some names. Otherwise, Google is your friend...

Get back to collecting basics, lets not forget the mortar (again...) postcards fairs around the world... its s a matter of patience and footwork...

In the meantime, you could possibly enjoy this book Le Rugby aux Jeux Olympiques by Pierre Vitalien. The book is in French but it will show you all possible postcards and memorabia from the rugby competition in 1924. Search my website for vitalien to find a 3min video showing this book (sorry, Im traveling and typing this message from my mobile... cant provide links)

ok Matt, just forget my answer below... I was in a train this morning and answered tour question without context : I thought you were searching for these rare postcards showing US and French teams + action pictures during the 1924 final... indeed, these cards are rare and expensive.

This illustrated card comes regularly on eBay or on this other auction website http://delcampe.fr/list.php?language=F&searchString=roowy As you can see, there are none available at the moment... but just set an alarm and be patient!
