I love that postcard !
It comes out of a serie of several rugby postcards showing great ruggers from the beginning of the XXth century
Aloysius Marie "Louis" Magee was captaining Ireland at the time (27 caps for Ireland and 4 caps for the Lions, mostly as scrum-half ; see all his stats here.) He was also playing for the Bective Rangers of Dublin.
If any of you do have the other cards of the serie, please send me a scan and I will display it here !
Edited 11/17 : Actually, I already have another card from this serie (England and Moseley captain J.F.Byrne). Just click here...

Dear Sir,
I am involved with the publication celebrating the 125th Anniversary Season of Bective Rangers FC.
Would it be possible for us to reproduce this postcard in our Commerative Yearbook, Louis Magee's Grandson (also Louis Magee, member of IRFU Committee) and his greatgrands are all active members of the club. Is this postcard for sale?
Look forward to hearing from you,
David Mc Garry,
Bective Rangers F.C. 125th Committee,

Hello Frederic, very interested in your comments on Louis Magee. My father is Sean Magee, a nephew of Louis (age 88) which I think makes Louis my great uncle. My family have come across more information than expected since recently searching for him on the internet. My son is starting rugby this year, lets hope the Magee rugby blood gives him the edge!

Hello Helen
This is a fairly old post...
Since then, I've been contacted by several "Magees" in Ireland, England and Australia... a pretty large family indeed !
I should write a new post about Louis Magee... to explain the day he went and played in Paris (London Irish v Racing Club de France) in 1899
My pictures of him are here :
