Following on my previous post,
here is Mr Cyril Rutherford, an Englishman who played rugby with the RCF
(Racing Club de France) at the turn of the century, portayed in French
magazine "La Vie Au Grand Air".
He is one of these gentlemen who helped to "import" rugby from Great Britain at the time.
Later, he became a referee, for instance in 1908 for one the first international matches between France and England in Paris (actually, the third one... won 19 to nil by the Brits... ). He appeared as a touch judge on those two pictures of the Equipe de France (here and there) against New Zealand. So was he in 1924 for the Olympic final in Paris (Stade de Colombes) between France and the USA.
Mr Rutherford - what a curriculum vitae ! - was also Secretary for International Affairs at the "Federation Francaise de Rugby".
Google "told" me that a Cyril Rutherford is recorded to have played cricket at the 1890's : I don't know whether we're talking of the same person...
