French College Rugby, Chartres 1912

Here is a postcard, dated 1912, showing the team from Lycee Marceau of Chartres (80 km west of Paris).
Louis Dedet, the prominent figure of Stade Français at the turn of the Century, once said that "Lycee de Chartres is the true Ecole Normale of our sport" (ok, I try to explain in English... Ecole Normale is a fairly elitist place that graduates would-be teachers)... Indeed, many of these young guys eventualy joined Stade Français after their studies...
Frankly, I usually don't collect team pictures (except my very favorites...), but I've found amusing to compare the real players with this poster print by Mich advertising for Chartres rugby team (that I regularly display here... because I like it very much !)
