B.C.Hartley, Blackheath and England, 1912

Here is a fantastic colour plate (say, my humble opinion...), featuring rugby player B.C."Jock" Hartley of Cambridge, Blackheath and England, published in The Arena, March 1912 (full size pic here).

Searching for prints can sometimes bring nice surprises... I am used at searching for sports magazine or illustrated newspapers to discover my rugby prints, but I feel lucky to have found out this "The Arena" magazine covering "University and Public Schools life" : it comes with several rugby topics, richly illustrated, about Rugby Football news, about Blackheath history (50 years jubilee in 1912...), and about the Eton wall game (several pictures to explain this mysterious game... )

Here is another cartoon from the same issue : the famous A.E.Stoddart, W.S.D.Craven, B.C.Hartley again, C.H.Pillman.(full size pic here)
