No memorabilia here, but a video clip of what I believe to be the finest try ever... !
Jean-Luc Sadourny scoring a last minute winning try against the Blacks in this fantastic 1994 tour when the French defeated New Zealand twice in the two test matches...
Enjoy !
Disclaimer : I am French...
(beware : sound level is high)
PS : I am searching for a video clip of Serge Blanco's try against Australia during World Cup 1987... who can help me ? (no torrents please, I can't use them...)
Edit sept.2006 : the video of Serge Blanco's try is here !!!
And for those who want to compare with Gareth Edwards' try against the Blacks in 1973 (already posted some weeks ago...), I am pleased to publish it again...

A rugby print by Ridgewell published in Punch magazine, 1921, then later watercoloured.
Caption reads : Tactfull opponent 'at half-time) "I say, I don't want to make any insinuation that might
spoil a perfectly topping match, but have you fellows seen anything of
a fair-sized piece of ear ?"
Mind your ears...

This is a genuine All Black jersey from the famous 1905 tour. Just the same as the one that David Gallaher is wearing on this postcard... (credit to John Ovalballs for the picture...)
This jersey was worn by George Gillet, wing foreward against Wales in their only - controversial... - loss (3 to nil) during this 35 games campaign across England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France and the USA... It will be auctionned next April 26 in Cardiff, and could go as high as 10,000 £ (basically 15,000 $ or €). If you want to place a bid, all details are here...
I have posted many times about the 1905 "Originals" All Blacks... here is a quick reminder :
And our friend John (Master of Collecting...) is displaying a whole array of postcards here on this topic...

Possibly the oldest print of all my rugby prints ... !
This is a full page print taken from Harper's Weekly, dated 1870, simply titled "Football at Rugby"
The ball might be more round than oval... but there is no doubt about the nature of the game ...!
Parents around the pitch seem somehow worried... :-)

An early XXth century comic rugby postcard by Tom Browne.
It seems that rugby was a pretty popular topic for these comic illustrated postcards... I have plenty of them to post over the next weeks...

An early XIXth century postcard showing a fairly agitated crowd on its way (way back ?) to the Stadium...
I like to compare it with this French newspaper photography from 1920s, where the same crowd is stepping down from the double-decker train linking Paris to the Stade de Colombes, home of the Equipe de France....

A fine, colorful, rugby print from the beginning of the XXth century, by Van Hasselt (let's be honest... I don't know this artist...).
This print was illustrating a card issued in 1912 for the public of a rugby match in Bordeaux (Stade Bordelais v Racing Club de France). The names of the players (Lane, Faillot, Bruneau...) were printed on the back, with some space left to handwrite the score...
I have once seen a larger print (125x125 cm) with the same topic sold by an Art Gallery specialized in sports prints (Lamot, in Bruxelles - ths print is at the middle of the page), and the seller was asking a mere 5000€ for it... my wife will certainly disagree such an investment... ;-)
